Continued long-term use of decongestants actually worsens symptoms of allergies; so these are supposed to be used for a few days only. Decongestants in liquid and pill forms are to be taken longer, and are guaranteed to be much safer.
Antihistamine allergy medicines are a common allergy medication which has been used for years by those who suffer undoubtedly from allergens. Antihistamines come in forms such as eye drops, nasal spray, liquid, and pills. People who suffer from red and itchy eyes can find comfort when buying antihistamine eye drops over the counter. Nasal sprays can also be obtained in this nature to aid in treating allergies that occur on a regular, seasonal basis.

Over the counter antihistimine allergy medicines include, Benadryl, Claritin, Chlor-Trimeton, Zyrtec, Ocu-Hist, Tavist, and Dimetane. Astelin and Allegra must be obtained via prescription by your doctor. Those who suffer from red, itchy eyes have their choices of Livostin and Emadine, which are eye drops.

Another relief from allergies is allergy shots, or Immunotherapy. This alternative is most effective for those who suffer constantly from allergies throughout the entire year. The recipient is gradually introduced to levels which increases their tolerance to an allergen.

Corticosteroids, or steroids aids in reducing inflammation resulting from allergies. In addition to decreasing inflammation, swelling, and other types of allergens; they treat itchy, runny nose, sneezing and nasal stuffiness.

Available in pill form; steroids are suitable methods of allergy medicines. For those who suffer from asthma and more serious allergies, inhalers and nasal sprays are at their disposal. Other forms of allergy medicines may include creams; for those who suffer from skin allergies; and eye drops for serious conjunctivitis.

All allergy medicines are known to be effective; however, they must be taken on a regular basis. Most people feel fine when not suffering symptoms of allergies; but it should be stressed to continue with use to prevent the full effect onset of allergies.
